Tarot Card of the Day

3 of Cups (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)

The 3 of Cups is about friendship. In one of my favorite movies, “It’s a Wonderful Life” the angel Clarence tells George Bailey “Remember George, no man is a failure who has friends.” Friends need to be cherished and loved. True friends are with us no matter what happens in our lives. And there is no time limit on friendship. You can go years without seeing a good friend and pick up where you left off when you encounter them again.

In the Tarot of the Divine, the 3 of Cups is represented by the Hindu myth of the Asparas from Cambodia. The Asparas are beautiful supernatural women who love entertaining. They are each a patron of one of the performing arts and are all accomplished dancers. They typically marry their musician male counterparts, the Gandharvas. All but one. The Queen of the Asparas was bored with the Gandharvas and went down to Earth to find something new and different that would spark her passion. She found King Kambu Swayambhuva who ha traveled to Cambodia from India. She fell in love with his kindness, valor, and exotic origins and forsook her immortality to marry him. Their descendants were the Cambodian monarchy.

Celebrate all your friends, show them love and appreciation in ways they will understand and appreciate. Don’t take them for granted, friendship is about giving and receiving kindness, understanding, support, and many other things. Give what you can, receive with grace what you need. Be the kind of friend you would like others to be for you. Check in with your friends today, and regularly. Nurture your friendships like you would a plant. Give your friendships what they need to grow and flourish. You won’t regret any time spent with a friend!
