8 of Swords (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)
The 8 of Swords is about self-doubt and hopelessness. A woman sits in a circle of swords, blindfolded or eyes hidden, trapped in a cage of her own making. She has a way out, and she can take off the blindfold, but chooses not to. She feels like there is no one to turn to, nothing she can do about her situation. But there are always options. Take off the blindfold, leave the circle, find your solutions. There is always someone to turn to, whether it’s friend, family, or professional. And of course there’s always Google!
The 8 of Swords in the Tarot of the Divine deck is represented by the French fairy tale Donkeyskin, which is a bit like Cinderella. A king has a donkey that poops gold. Fun! His kingdom is prosperous and he marries the most beautiful woman in the land. They have a daughter who is just as beautiful. The Queen dies and tells her husband he may only remarry if the woman is as beautiful as she is, but only their daughter fulfills that requirement. The princess insists on gifts before she will marry her father, 3 fancy dresses and a cloak made of the skin of the donkey that poops gold. He gives her these things, but she disguises herself in the cloak and runs away, working in the kitchen of another castle. She sneaks out and goes to parties in her fancy dresses, and a prince falls in love with her. She bakes a ring into a cake for the prince and he swears whoever the ring fits he will marry. It only fits the donkeyskinned disguised princess. She reveals herself and they are married and live happily ever after.
Don’t get trapped in a situation of your own making. Don’t be the one getting in your own way. Only you can choose how you react to any given situation. You can choose to find a way out. Use all your resources. Sit down and brainstorm what those resources are. I turn to my tribe for ideas. Other people can see your situation more objectively than you can. You can even ask Alexa! My son asked Alexa “How do I get a girlfriend” and “she” actually gave him good advice!
