Tarot Card of the Day
The Hanged Man (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)
The Hanged Man hangs upside down on a tree, in a state of suspension, looking at the world from a different perspective. He (or she) is caught in a state of limbo, watching the world go by while upside down, seeing things that others don’t. This card has many meanings. It can be about taking a break, giving your mind and body the rest it needs, or it can mean thinking outside the box or looking at a situation from another person’s perspective.
In the Tarot of the Divine, the Hanged Man is represented by the Italian fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. This is another fairy tale that we might all be familiar with, and has been told by many cultures. A king and queen have a daughter, who is cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. The good fairies present changed the curse so that the princes would merely sleep, not die. The king has all the spindles in the kingdom destroyed, but when the princess was 16 she came across an old woman spinning in a forgotten part of the castle and touched the needle. She instantly fell asleep. The fairies came and put the entire kingdom to sleep until a true prince would kiss the “sleeping beauty.” A prince finally came after a hundred years and kissed the princess. Everyone woke up and they lived happily ever after. The picture of sleeping beauty is beautiful on this card, and the princess was certainly in a state of suspension for a hundred years. So this card is an adequate representation of the energy of the hanged man.
How can you use the energy of the Hanged Man in your life today? Take a step back, look at your problems from a different perspective? Think outside the box? I’m notorious for being stuck inside the box. Maybe take a day off from responsibilities and rest. You decide how this energy would work best in your life.
