Tarot Card of the Day

Queen of Cups (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)

The Queen of Cups is the loving mother of the Tarot deck. She is kind, considerate, and nurturing. She relies on her intuition to tell her when someone she loves needs her assistance and provides that assistance lovingly. She is not afraid to show her emotions and lets those she loves know she loves them by word and deed. She nurtures the young and cares for the elderly.

In the Tarot of the Divine deck, she is represented by Yemoja, a Yoruban Orisha from Nigeria. Yemoja was present at creation, and governs the surface waters: the top of the ocean, rivers and lakes, all the waters that are full of life. She married many times, once to an Orisha named Aganyu and they had a son, Orungan. Orungan was smitten with his mother and tried to force himself on her. She refused and her “water broke” flooding the earth, and giving birth to 14 Orishas and the first humans. Yemoja also governs parenting, children, love, and healing.

Do you have a Queen of Cups in your life? Are you a Queen of Cups? We all have the potential to be loving, nurturing parent figures, whether we bear our own children or care for others. How can you bring the energy of the Queen of Cups into your life today? One of my daily affirmations is to “show love to my children in ways they understand and appreciate.” This requires me to know, understand, and respect my childrens’ love languages. Go show your love for someone in a way they will understand and appreciate and you will be rewarded with a genuine smile, at the very least.
