Tarot Card of the Day

4 of Coins (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)

The 4 of Coins tells us to save (or hoard) our resources. Now is not the time to spend money recklessly. We’re coming off a full moon and in Mercury retrograde. We may not have the best judgement about spending money right now. Keep your wallet closed, and stay off Amazon for the time being, and be wise with your resources. Don’t go to the grocery store hungry if you need milk, be creative with what you have in the kitchen for dinner, wait to order that tarot deck you had your eye on.

The 4 of Coins in the Tarot of the Divine deck is represented by the Aymaran folktale from Peru The Condor’s Wife. A condor was flying near a lake and saw a young woman tending to her family’s livestock and crops. He was intrigued with her beauty and landed next to her. He desired her so much that he asked her to come with him, but she declined. He tricked her into getting on his back and took her home anyway. He kept her hidden in his nest, but gave her vulture food, scavenged raw meat, to eat. This made her sick. A hummingbird suggested to the condor that he go steal a roasted alpaca he had just seen in the village. The condor agreed and went to get the meat. Meanwhile. the hummingbird helped the girl escape and return to her family. The condor was so angry he ripped the hummingbird into a hundred pieces and that’s why there are so many hummingbirds today.

Saving our resources can be a good thing, unless you hoard them unnecessarily and deny your family their basic needs. A few luxuries are nice, but take care to choose which ones you spend your money on. What are your financial priorities? Saving for retirement? Paying off your debt? This may be an unpleasant topic, but a necessary one. Spend some time today looking at your finances and see where you can save a few pennies.
