The 3 of Cups is about Friendship. Every 3 of Cups I’ve ever seen pictures 3 people, usually women, celebrating together in some fashion. This card is no different. 3 people, who from the back look very different, looking up at the stars with their arms around each other. Friendship is special. It is a chosen relationship that you could lose if you don’t cultivate it, but it’s so precious because of that. True friends stay with us forever, no matter how far apart we are. You don’t see each other for years, then pick up where you left off. True friends are also the people you are free to completely be yourself with and they won’t judge you. They’re there for you whenever you need them. They love you for who you are, not because you were tied to them at birth like family, but because they understand and accept your strengths and weaknesses, virtues and faults. A friend recently shared a song with me called “Chosen Family” by Rina Sawayama. This song reflects how we feel about our closest friends: they are our chosen family. The people we love, not because we have to, but because we want to. I highly recommend giving it a listen.
