Tarot Card of the Day

6 of Coins (Deck: Tarot of the Divine by Yoshi Yoshitani)

The 6 of coins is about generosity. We give of ourselves and our resources to those who are in need. Sometimes that’s time, and sometimes it’s money, and sometimes it’s just compassion. Quite often, it’s forgiveness. Everyone has a need, and everyone has the capacity to give in some way. We are a web, all connected, and what affects one affects all. Having a generous spirit is a way of life. When you see a need, you try to fill it in whatever way you have available.

The 6 of Coins in the Tarot of the Divine deck is represented by the Inuit Fable from Alaska, The Woman Who Was Kind to Insects. Once there was an old woman who was too old and frail to make the trip south for the winter. The tribe left her there with a basket of insects to eat. The old woman looked at the insects and thought that they were young and she was old and they could live full lives and have children as she had. So she let the insects go. Later, a fox came up to her and started biting at her. She thought she was going to die. But the bites didn’t hurt. Soon she realized he was biting off her skin. She shed her skin and became young again.

We can all give. Figure out what you have to offer and find someone who needs that. The universe will accept your offering even if the person doesn’t. Then find another way to help. Even the smallest generosity may help someone in ways you can’t imagine. A smile may cheer someone’s day who needs it. A clothing donation to a woman’s shelter may help a woman look more professional for a job interview and help her gain her independence. Find a way to help and do it!
